    Abstract. Many of the applications covered in this book involve attempts to mitigate disturbances to an optical signal. Such disturbances may come from the propagation medium (dispersion and turbulence), from the optical instruments being used (aberration) or from random noise in the light source or detectors. This book therefore aims to address quantum communications and possible new applications in telecommunications. In collaboration with Professor Achour Benslama, who has been working on the question of the evolution of quantum mechanics, and Dr Aris Skander who has refined the laser and cryptography aspects, we will provide the scientific.

    Cryptography has been extensively investigated to protect the secrecy of communications. Quantum cryptography combines the single-photon optical communication and cryptography by introducing quantum entanglement via polarization of quanta. Secure interferometric communications, based on quantum principles, utilizes the large populations of. This book will show the state of the art of Quantum Cryptography and it will sketch how it can be implemented in standard communication infrastructure. The growing vulnerability of sensitive data requires new concepts and QKD will be a possible solution to overcome some of today’s limitations.

    Currently quantum information is a particularly hot area, where examples of applications enabled by single-photon technology are quantum cryptography protocols [65–69], quantum communication and specifically quantum repeaters [70–74], and certain quantum computation protocols [75].
